DAY AND NIGHT
Why do we have day and night?
We have day and night because the Earth rotates. It spins on its axis, which is an imaginary line passing through the North and South Poles.
The Earth spins slowly all the time, but we don't feel any movement because it turns smoothly and at the same speed.
How long does it take the Earth to turn around?
The Earth takes a whole day (24 hours) to makea complete turn.
Why is the Sun in the sky at some times and not at other times?
At any time half of the Earth faces the sun. This part has day. The other half of the Earth faces away from the Sun. It receives no light. It is dark and has night.
The sun is the source of light for day.
Why does the sun seem to move across the sky?
The Sun does not move. It seems to move across the sky starting in the east in the morning, moving toward the south at noon, and then toward the west as the day ends.
It is the Earth turning that makes it seem as though the Sun is moving.

Parents move the candles;

If you go outside some night you can see all kinds of stars.

The Earth travels around The Sun. It takes one year for the Earth to do all the way around The Sun once.

THE SOLAR SYSTEM
In our solar system, eight planets circle around our Sun. The Sun sits in the middle while the planets travel in circular paths (called orbits) around it. These eight planets travel in the same direction (counter- clockwise looking down from the Sun's north pole).

PIRATE ISLAND by Blue Mango
BB is a Pirate captain, 20 years ago her ship sang and since then she has lived on Pirate Island. She lives alone and has everything exactly the way she likes it. One night there is a big storm and two new people arrive on Pirate Island. There names are Max and Mini.Max and Mini, live, eat, sleep and talk very differently to BB. She is not happy, she doesn't want to share her island. She does not like difference and she doesn't like change. The three of them start fighting over the space, the food and the way things should be done. They find it very difficult to live together. One day a message in a bottle arrives on the island. It is from the Tungas, the tribe who live on the island next door. King Tunga is expecting a party on Pirate Island. BB, Mini and Max are in danger, if the party isn't good King Tunga is going to be very angry. Suddenly, BB, Max and Mini have to work together to organise the party. Will they survive the challenge? Can they overcome their differences and work together?

AMAZING DAY 2009 in Balsareny
Pupils of 3rd cycle from Escola Guillem (Balsareny), Zer Gavarresa, Escola Sant Vicenç (St. Vicenç de Castellet) and Escola Lluçanès (Prats de Lluçanès) enjoyed THE AMAZING DAY in Balsareny. We did funny workshops, went to the theatre and had lunch together.

SCOTTISH CEILIDH DANCES-HAPPY WEEK 2009
Everybody is welcome at a Céilidh. A Céilidh is a traditional Gaelic social dance originating in Ireland and Scotland. The music is cheerful and lively and the basic steps can be learned easily. Ceilidh dances can be either a partner dance or a group dance.
It is a relaxed opportunity to meet and dance with friends.
